Lost Fan? Middlefan? It's All Gravy

Tonight we've got something special on The Middlecast for both Lost fans and Middleman fans. It's a special guest. Yes. Special. Special.... I wish I could think of another word to highlight the special-ness of this guest without using the word special. I think special is the norm. People just expect the guest to be special, even if they aren't. But this one is, making the guest a proper special guest.

This guest, who will be joining us tonight at 9pm EST on TalkShoe for The Middlecast has written for both The Middleman and Lost. So fans of both shows are encouraged to join.

Lost: The Synchronization

While I think this video takes some liberties as far as the exact details go, it's an excellent look at the known timeline of the crash as seen through the eyes of the survivors, Desmond and New Otherton. I actually saw this back when it came out, before I started this blog, but stumbled across it again today when putting together my post about recent Lost podcasts and thought it'd be a good addition to Audibly Lost's archives.

Javi has just released a new vlogcast (is that a word yet?). In it he answers some fan questions... including one Lost related. That's right Lost fans... the answer of the smoke monster is revealed! Watch:

"Lost" Podcast Roundup

Here's an update on some recent podcasts you should check out. And some info on upcoming podcasts.

  • The Hyrdacooler is still recording regularly. They are filling time during the hiatus re-watching and analyzing Lost starting in Season 1. They just recorded an episode discussing Walkabout. Make sure to check out their page on TalkShoe for upcoming episode info and the show's archive. Here's the episode:

    Download it (MP3)

  • The GSPN Lost Podcast recently interviewed Bonnie Covel of lost.about.com which is definitely worth a listen. Bonnie is extremley knowledgeable about the show and covering Lost is her day job.

    Download it (MP3)

  • Clay and Chris of The Dharma Dummies do a character analysis of John Locke which should be a good listen for any fans of Locke. These are the same guys who bring their grandmothers on to the podcast occasionally, which I love.

    Download it (MP3)

  • As for upcoming shows, The Lost Flashbacks is changing nights from Monday back to Thursday (or that's what it seems like for now.) They are all set to record a new show tonight, live on TalkShoe at 9pm EST. Be sure to join.

  • The Transmission is preparing to record a podcast reviewing Season 4. They are looking for people to call in and discuss the season. Check it out.

  • The Lost Community Book Club has released their summer and fall reading list. All you book worms will love this. And it will give you a chance to geek out about both Lost and your reading habits. View the list then tune into their podcasts.

"Secrets And Recap" Of "Lost" Finale

Sean of the smolesiuk YouTube channel posted his recaps of There's No Place Like Home earlier this month and I just stumbled across them. He covers many screen caps, audio elements and character/plot details from the episode so you should watch as there may be some details you missed, if nothing else you should listen to some of his theories.

Lost At Promax/BDA 2008

I've been busy most of the week (as you've seen by the lack of posts, which is why I need a bigger staff) at the annual Promax/BDA conference. ABC had a nice set of ads at the Hilton, which included some Lost posters. Of course, nothing beats last year when Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse held a panel at the conference.

Also, one panelist, John Couch, Vice-President of Digital Kitchen, used The Lost Experience as an example of successful execution of a viral marketing ad campaign. He also critiques ABC's Lost micro site. Here's a short clip from that panel:

Oddly the video he played was a fan video, if I'm not mistaken. The one he meant to play was most likely this one.

Old But Awesome: The Final Countdown

Europe's The Final Countdown in The Swan. I know the vid is a bit old, but it's too awesome to not post.

Lostorama

As much as I love Dr. Zoidberg (VWOOT VWOOT), he's more of a Bernard, not Jack. Jack is totally Bender... with the beard and drinking problems. And it makes so much sense in this context... Bender is Future-Angry-Crazy-Drunken-Jack!... better yet... he's Jack Bender. Hahahah. That's awesome. Jack Bender. *sigh*

"Lost" pr[zero]n Found

Lost pr0n gets around it seems. Apparently the same fake magazine was used both on Lost and on In Plain Sight. I guess once ABC was done with the mag it passed it over to NBC.
So I went back online and grabbed a screen capture of that Playpen magazine which was seen in the final minutes of last night's premiere of 'In Plain Sight'. And save for a reworking of the cover script, it looks to be the same issue that Charlie found while rooting about in Sawyer's stash on 'Lost' in "Flashes Before Your Eyes":

[Far right and left are from 'Lost'. Center is from 'In Plain Sight'.]

So I'd say we have a definite crossover. My splainin for the difference in the text? Each issue was geared to a different market in the world. The one we saw from 'In Plain Sight' was sold in the Albuquerque area, while Sawyer probably picked his up at the airport in Sydney, Australia.

I can't imagine what the condition of this magazine is going to be when CBS gets it. And The CW should probably use gloves when it gets around to them, that is if 80% of the pages haven't been yanked out already.

"Previously On Lost" Live - Part 2: Preludes To Rescue

UPDATE: Part Three is now up.

To read Part One of this story click here.

8:10pm - On line. Those of us waiting to see Previously On Lost stood out among the group on the sidewalk. The Knitting Factory is very much a part of the punk scene now, attracting fashionably (or unfashionably?) punk people. At the front of the line there was commotion between a security guard and a young man adorned with a mohawk, piercings and other distinguishable body art.

"...this is really stupid!" yelled Mohawk.

"The sign is right there," said the guard firmly as he pointed to a printout taped on the door. "No re-entry! You can't keeping coming in and out. If you're gonna wait outside get behind the red rope."

No re-entry? It seemed the club was to become my island for the evening, with the draw bridges raised. I decided I better heed the warning and smoke a cigarette. In Bloomberg's New York it could be hours before I would get another chance. I got behind the red rope.

Mohawk guy wasn't happy. The security guard didn't seem to be having a good day either. He shouted across the line.

"Everyone get your IDs out and open up your bags!"

Once I was back on line I showed him my ID, and moments later had a wrist band, necessary, if I was planning on buying any drinks, which I was. Once inside I walked over to the ticket booth and bought myself a ticket for the show, which had yet to start, despite the 8:00 show time. [-$10]

The ticket-lady pointed me to the show, and then pointed me to the bar, where I would need to wait until the doors opened. No problem. I bought a Corona, which set me back more than I was hoping it would. I made a mental note to avoid imports for my next round. [-$7]

Drink in hand, I felt it was as good a time as any to start socializing. I approached two ladies.

"Hey, so I guess you guys are fans of Lost?"

"She's the fan, not me." The shorter one said.

"Ah, and how'd you hear about the show?" I asked the taller one. Looking back, I guess I was hoping she would answer that she found this awesome blog, Audibly Lost and after she read about the show she knew she had to come. The reality was dreary, however.

"The New York Times, you?"

"Audibly Lost. It's this blog I ran across. Really cool. You should check it out. AudiblyLost.com. That's A-U-D-I-B-L-Y, Lost, Dot Com." Shameless, I know.

The short one asked me for the time. 8:30. Everyone was getting impatient for the show to start. Five minutes later we found ourselves in a river of bodies flooding into the venue, I lost the two girls in the shuffle, which I didn't really care about at that point. My Corona was dry so I wanted to re-fuel before things got under way. One Pabst later [-$3] I was in the crowd and staring at the stage. [Note: This marks the demise of the $21.]

The stage was decked out with palm trees and a belly dancer (not real, though a real doll) holding a microphone. I recalled Hurley's birthday party. After more than 25 minutes or so of waiting, activity! The show was threatening to begin. Band members took the stage; the crowd started cheering; instruments were tuned. And then, from the back of the crowd, "Oceanic 815" (bearing a resemblance to the Space Shuttle) crash landed on stage. The lead singers, Jeff and Adam, emerged just in time to stomp and tear the cardboard aircraft to pieces, beginning the show.

I was amped. What followed was more than an hour of bliss for any Lost fan.

Stay tuned for a re-cap of the re-cap band's set. I know I promissed two parts. But the music itself deserves its own post, free of my awkward conversations and ramblings about free money. Stay tuned.

To check out Previously On Lost online, visit their MySpace page. Keep an eye out for Part Three of this story in which I actually talk about the music and performance of Previously On Lost last Sunday (June 1st) at The Knitting Factory. To read Part One of this story click here.

UPDATE: Part Three is now up.
