Lost Extras Casting Call

Fancy carrying logs in the backround of your favorite TV show? You may be a bit too late (along with this blog post.) A poster on Oahu's version of craigslist posted this on leap day:

'LOST' CASTING is looking for new faces to work as EXTRAS on the hit TV show.

Please send 2 photos: (1) FACE (2) FULL LENGTH BODY SHOT, NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBER, SIZES to...

Julie Carlson, Extras Casting Director

Even though it's a bit old it's still kind of cool to know that an average person has a shot at winding up on Lost. Good luck to anyone who ever manages to score a gig as one of the socks!

"Fringe" Details Emerge

For those that don't know, J.J. Abrams is a busy man. Not only has he been occupied with movies like Star Trek XI and Cloverfield, but he's also been working on a 10 million dollar pilot (sound familiar Lost fans?) for a show called "Fringe."

The show, it seems, is a sci-fi X-Files rip off (I will ignore all hate mail later) about two FBI agents who explore the super-natural. The Other Girl over at WyvernHawk claims to have read the pilot and had this to say about it:

The feature length pilot opens on board a turbulent plane flying from Germany to the US - the general sense of unease swiftly descends to terror as one of the passengers injects himself with a syringe and shortly after, begins to literally melt, his entire body liquifying. This horrifying condition rapidly spreads throughout the rest of the plane, as both passengers and crew members also start melting away. As the plane flies on auto pilot in the middle of a bad storm, we move to a cheap motel where two FBI agents - Olivia Warren and John Scott - are in the middle of an illicit tryst. They are called to the airport, arriving separately to find a swarm of agents and personnel from various government agencies and the airplane, its windows obscured with blood. Olivia boards the plane for a closer look, and is met with the horrific sight of unidentifiable melted bone and blood.

As the story unfolds, John is involved in an explosion during the course of the investigations - needless to say, the public are unaware of the nature of the incident - and exposed to a chemical which renders his body into a hardened, clarified state - as if he were made of glass. As she frantically searches for a cure, Olivia is compelled to join forces with a brilliant but unhinged scientist whose work in the Seventies explored "fringe science" - paranormal phenomena which cannot be explained by conventional science - and his son, and comes to realise this is but one of many inexplicable incidents that have occurred across the world. The key to them may lie behind the highly closed doors of a huge, cutting edge corporation called Prometheus, whose disciplines seem to cover just about everything...

Penned by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, both ALIAS alumni who have most recently co-written the TRANSFORMERS and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE III films, FRINGE has Abrams' stamp all over it - from the jaw dropping plane incident opener, to the supernatural phenomena and conspiracy theories, all encapsulated in plenty of of high octane action. Rumoured to have a budget in the region of $10million, the pilot script for this 13 part series is complex, ambitious, intelligent and, above all, hugely entertaining. This was a thrilling read and I'm really looking forward to seeing it brought to life (especially since hearing that Joshua Jackson is attached to the project!). Huzzah!

To be honest I would almost rather have Fox clean up the all the messy plots of The X-Files in a nice big movie or TV revival as opposed to just starting over with a brand new show with another name.... Since it's JJ, however, they get a pass. Let's see where this one goes.

Best Lost Behind-The-Scenes Picture Ever

Lyly Ford just posted this "behind the scenes" picture of Naomi (played by the sexy Marsha Thomason) over on her blog. Personally I think this is the best behind the scenes picture from Lost ever. (Click the photo to enlarge it)

Lost Meets Jeopardy In One Week

Big-O of The Cranky Fanatic Podcast has just announced that next week he will be doing a special Lost meets Jeopardy edition of the podcast. All the familiar Jeopardy rounds and surprises will be included thanks to RodimusBen, a frequent fan and listener of the podcast who made the questions for the show. The podcast will be live on TalkShoe Wednesday April 2nd at 9:30 PM EST. I'll probably post a reminder about it sometime next week, but if you are intersted in joining make sure you visit Big-O's Cranky Fanatic page on TalkShoe the night of the podcast.

DarkUFO Commenter Reveals Details Of Matthew Fox Interview

This interview, posted on DarkUFO yesterday, has to be one of the oddest yet most entertaining press junket interviews to come out of the film Vantage Point. The interview was conducted in Germany and the interviewer, Torgen Schneider, was apparently very sick (as in diseased) at the time. He also claims that Matthew Fox had been out all night partying which added more to the uniqueness of the interview. The interview caused a tirade of comments on the DarkUFO post in question. Here is what Torgen wrote about his interview with Matthew Fox in the DarkUFO comments:

Hi, this is the interviewer, Thanks for the mostly kind comments. For those who thought the interview was weird, let me bring some light into this. These so-called interview-"junkets" never give you enough time to really "talk" - they (the pr people) tell you shortly before the interview, how many minutes (average: five to six, Robert de Niro only 1:45, I'm not kidding) each interviewer gets and they warn you not to ask anything but questions about the movie. For this particular interview they gave me exactly 5 minutes and 30 seconds counting down the moment I enter the interview room. What made this interview admittedly look so different to most of my other interviews, was the fact that I was sick that morning and Matt was hun g-over because he partied till 8am, the lucky bastard!! Okay, so then you sit down and as an interviewer you start thinking, how soon can I start asking questions about something other than the movie he is promoting??? In this case my spiking fever made me talk about other stuff right away which caused the pr person in the room to make hysterical signs with her hands and eyes... however, Matt was really nice and we actually went overtime a bit, which I'm sure caused the pr person an almost heart attack because she had to reschedule the day after ONE interview. So, what I'm trying to say is this: I know that little chat looks a bit weird and is probably not my best interview, but considering that I felt and looked like shit and Matt was very tired, it came out okay. If you check the interview I did with Dennis Quaid half an hour later, you will see that was even "weirder" because I was gettng sicker by the minute. So, I hope I could explain the "weirdness" a little and if you want, you can watch other interviews I've done on youtube or myvideodotde. And for the remark that I don't care for LOST - wrong!! I am a BIG Lost fan and I am thrilled season four has me on the edge of my couch again!
Cheers from Berlin, Torgen

For a journalist Torgen should really master the art of not posting large blocks of text. That's quite a paragraph there!

New Lost Parody

I was just checking out The Black Rock blog (home of The Black Rock Podcast) and saw this mildly entertaining video. To be honest I don't find it that funny but it would be cool to see what else comes of these action figure movies. Reminds me a bit of Evan Mather's old Star Wars action figure flicks, but with lower production values.

This one is a tad more funny:

Jorge Garcia Comments On Via Domus (The Lost Game)

Jorge Garcia had this to say about Lost: Via Domus:

I have played a few video games in my day. And I do enjoy the scary ones. But nothing in "The Suffering" or "Doom III" has scared me more than Hurley from "Via Domus."

The best part was running into the engine and it blowing up. (But it's a shame it didn't suck me in before it exploded.)

Lost Music: It's Getting Better

I am going to begin featuring music that appears on Lost every now and then and decided I'd start with Cass Elliot's It's Getting Better which was very prominent in Thursday's episode of Lost, Meet Kevin Johnson. Here it is:

Harold Perrineau's West Hollywood Property For Sale

Lost star Harold Perrineau is selling his West Hollywood home for close to 2.4 million. Check out what RealEstalker had to say about the house here.

A few quick stats: Main house has 3 beds/3 baths, house includes 2-story guest house & swimming pool.

Washington Bridge In GTAIV

While we have yet to see images of the George Washington Bridge in GTAIV (though I've read it's in the game) it seems that its smaller little brother, the Washington Bridge, will definitely be making an appearance. Keep an eye out for its nearby landmarks in Washington Heights if you buy GTAIV. "The home of the haze" is a fun enough place to make drug runs, punch prostitutes and buy arms in real life so I can't imagine what the game makers are planning to do with the upper Manhattan neighborhood. Below are pictures of the actual bridge (from wikipedia) and a version of the GTA screen you may click on to enlarge.

Congestion Pricing: By Congested

Mayor Bloomberg has recently received support for his congestion pricing plan from New York State's luckiest man of the year, David A. Patterson. Supporters of this plan, however, don't really see it for what it is on face value.

What Bloomberg is really doing is using health and environmental concerns to raise taxes. And even if you're okay with that the plan is a fundamental failure in my opinion. Taxis and commercial vehicles, which make up most of Manhattan's traffic, would be exempt from the plan so there would be a very limited number of vehicles and drivers effected by the changes. This means that any environmental and health changes would be minimal.

Also this would be a pain in the ass for people like me, who live in Manhattan above the "congestion zones." I vote no on this one.

If this does happen we may get our 2nd Avenue subway line (which ground broke on in 1972) a bit faster, however. Well... we better if we're going to paying for this plan as I'm sure many folks will be using the subway more.

The Sunday Night Show With Iain Lee

Fans of The Lost Initiative should check out Iain Lee's Virgin Radio show. It's humorous and he has some great characters call in. If you'd like to spend a couple hours laughing at English people this is definitely for you.

Feed on iTunes

The following little clip involves some Lost discussion about Meet Kevin Johnson for those interested. Iain Lee makes the claim that there will be a Danielle Rousseau flashback "this series."

San Andreas Multi-Player: The Beginning Of The End

The developers of SA:MP (San Andreas: Multi-Player), a PC mod for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas that allows you to play with hundreds of other players at once (think World Of Warcraft meets GTA), are saying that their work on the violent multiplayer mod will end with the immenant release of Grand Theft Auto IV.

Kye, a lead developer for SA:MP, recently posted this on the mod's website:

"SA-MP managed to set several milestones during development. We were the first to get 100 players in to an action/free-roam world during the SA-MP 0.1 beta testing. During the 0.2 beta testing, we managed to double this limit to 200 players. The most popular SA-MP servers are usually full with 100-150 players every day. Each weekend, SA-MP peaks at just over 8000 concurrent players. We have clocked over 6 million downloads. According to XFire, we have also helped to keep the PC version of GTA: San Andreas close to, or within, the top 20 of all online PC games. Not to mention, we have pulled this off without any assistance from the developers of the game....

...Assuming GTA IV does arrive for the PC, which we don't have any hint of yet, the multiplayer experience will most likely be a lot different from what we've created. For instance, going by the information provided so far: one of the players will be required to host the game, there will be a maximum of 16 players, the hoster of the game will only have limited control of the game-play style.

In this case, I would like to ask the SA-MP community whether this project has grown beyond GTA: San Andreas. Would you like to see us continue this idea in another form?

I'll take this opportunity to express thanks to everyone who contributed to this project over the past few years. I'd also like to thank the Multi Theft Auto team for proving it was technically feasible to create a multiplayer modification using the information available within the GTA modding community."

This is all great but we've seen plenty of drama from the SA:MP devs in the past regarding the ending of their development of the mod. 0.2.5's development has also been doused in drama whether it be leaks of the software, questions about its features (bots anyone?) or delays. Even if GTAIV's multiplayer modes are popular there is no way they will be able to match the scale and populated servers of SA:MP. Even if SA:MP is closing its doors I'm sure there will be people playing it for a while just as people are still playing VC:MP.

Music In The Lost Initiative

As much as I love this podcast the constant music in the backround is getting annoying.

Harold Perrineau Interview On Preston and Steve

Harold Perrineau did a radio interview last week. Enjoy.

"Lost Virtual Tour" Has Season 4 Locations Up

The folks over at Lost Virtual Tour are doing a nice job updating their website with Season 4 locations. If you want a behind-the-scenes look at Lost Season 4 check this out.

Like "Lost"? Like Getting Drunk? Live In New York? Read This!

When Lost is actually on the air there is a bar in New York, Professor Thoms', that is a great place to watch the show with friends if you like large crowds (and jello shots.)

The bar offers up free drinks if certain things happen in an episode... like for Ji Yeon it was:

Free Jungle Juice JELLO shots if Sun or Jin are in the "Oceanic 6" OR if someone dies!

Well that must have been a fun night. I personally haven't been yet and don't know if I could handle watching Lost with actual lights on. I turn into such an asshole while watching the show that I'd definitely get into some bar fights if I went to that place.

LPN vs. LTN

LTN - KLST 108!

LPN? LTN? They both meant nothing to me as well until I gradually became more obsessed with Lost. They are acronyms for groups of podcasts, or "networks."

The "LPN," or Lost Podcasting Network, is basically a huge feed of a ton of podcasts dedicated to Lost. The Lost Theories Network is a more controlled and exclusive feed and breed of podcasts.

The LPN is probably too huge. There are way too many podcasts in the feed and the quality control on some of these is pretty low. LTN features some podcasts I enjoy including The Official Lost Podcast, Cranky Fanatic, The Black Rock Podcast and The Joshmeister Podcast.

Expect to hear more audio/info/clips from LTN podcasts on this blog. That's not to say I'm not going to try and find interesting stuff from other podcasts, but those are the ones I will be listening too more often.

If you're looking for a good Lost podcast feed go with the Lost Theories Network. I've also added a link to their feeds on the sidebar.

Lostpedia IRC Overload

Those who are familiar with Lostpedia may have noticed a news item on the famed Lost wiki talking about a Lostpedia chat room. If you are one of these people then congratulations, you get a cookie.

The Lostpedia IRC channel has recently, and unfortunately, been flooded with morons, douche bags and foolishness because of this sudden advertisement.

If you're going to come and chat with people about Lost, please be civil. This is by far the best chat room out there for Lost fans so if you could not be an asshole to everyone that'd be great. kkthxbai.

Drama Update: Story Behind Website Banning Emerges

I recently posted about DocArzt readers being banned from a forum shrouded in mystery. I was tipped off by a commenter (who goes by the name DocArzt, but I think is a phony) that it was BuddyTV/TTS who were banning people. I begun digging through their forums to learn the whole story and basically this is what happened. Apparently "hlyons," who was a moderator on TTS (The Tail Secton) and is now a member of the new DocArzt forums, posted about DocArzt.com on TTS. BuddyNick, the admin for BuddyTV is the one who carried out the ban but this does, for the most part, seem like an isolated incident. None the less BuddyNick issued a warning that makes me wonder if they are also reading PMs over there on TTS, which would not be cool at all.

A lot of people seem upset over the ban on The Tail Section so I wonder who, if anyone, actually complained or ratted hlyons out. This BuddyNick probably wanted hlyons gone for other reasons, or else he would not have perma-banned her, especially her being a mod... something doesn't smell quite right. Also, FYI, DocArzt sold The Tail Section to BuddyTV last year.

And what does hlyons say about all this?:

Plenty of other people have websites in their signatures. But that is it that is why I was baned and stripped of my mod status.

Now please no one attack btv, I am telling you it won't do any good. I am happy here.

So basically what I am gathering is you can advertise other websites on BuddyTV... unless of course it's one that they are worried will steal their user base. And since BuddyTV has money to make/lose in all this I'm sure this ban is a sign of fear on their part for not getting a return on their investment.

Happy Easter

Let Jesus rejoice in this Yoshi madness! AMEN! And OMG click on Yoshi.... HE HAS A FISH BISCUIT!

You Can Kill Pigeons In GTAIV

Recently, over on the GTAIV forums at gtaforums.com, I read that there are mini-missions which involve killing pigeons. I would like to say how awesome I think this is and how much more excited this makes me to play GTAIV. Despite recent inconsistencies with New York lifestyles I think the fact that you can hunt down flying rats more than makes up for any realistic downfalls the game may have.

Lock and load bitches!

Bad Day For DarkUFO & Co.

All my condolences go out to Andy and G-Man of DarkUFO. As some may know I'm a big fan of DarkUFO and have contributed there in the past (and still do from time to time.) Losing someone close isn't easy so you may find that things slow down over there for a bit. This message was posted on DarkUFO today:

Hi All,

Just wanted to let you know that a couple of regular features and general updates will be delayed over the next week or so due to a death in our family. We hope to get most things posted but there will be a delay in submissions appearing on the site. I also found out that G-Man has also suffered a death in his family and as a result the Fantasy League Update will be delayed for a while.

My good friends Lyly and The ODI who have been helping us out greatly over the difficult last few days will continue to help me out in keeping the site running. A big thanks to both of them.

Sorry for any inconvenience and thanks for all your support.

The ODI and Lyly Ford have been great resources to DarkUFO and always have good info/news to post. I'm sure they'll be able to keep things running smoothly. And it seems Andy is still posting for now.

Again, my condolences to both G-Man and Andy.

Initial Reaction Of The Week: The Lost Flashbacks

Each week after Lost many podcasters do an initial reaction show discussing their impressions of the show. I will be posting a featured initial reaction show each week (when Lost is on the air). This week's featured initial reaction show is The Lost Flashbacks.

Official Lost Podcast: Return of Carlton's Banjo

Carlton Cuse had finally satisfied fans of The Official Lost Podcast by playing a couple riffs on his banjo!

Here it is folks!

Listen to the entire podcast on iTunes.

Conclusions: Meet Kevin Johnson

Here what I learned from last night's episode of Lost.
  • Keamy is indeed an asshole.

  • Just because there is a group of people on a boat trying to capture you doesn't mean you can't call them to say hi every now and then.

  • The Others embrace homosexuals because man-on-man love doesn't usually lead to women getting pregnant.

  • Sayid is a tattletale.

  • Walt drives a lot a people to either die or go mad.

  • Killing people who get DUI's doesn't make you a bad person.

  • If you hear bullets flying around you don't stand up.

With a hiatus now ahead of us I will have to work on a good list of predictions for the next episode.

TalkShoe Apologizes for "Jay and Jack" problems

Recent complaints about TalkShoe have gained some attention in the form of a copy/pasted message addressed to Colleen (of the Jay and Jack forums). Not very personal, but a step in the right direction. TalkShoe's VP of Product Management left this comment on my two posts about the problem, as well as a comment in Colleen's essay post about it over on her blog.:

Hello Colleen. I want to assure you that by no means did TalkShoe single out this call or do anything intentional to derail it. We have seen a very heavy demand for TalkShoe in the last weeks and this may unfortunately have impacted the call. We think that the call for Autism is a great cause and will do everything we can to help make the most of the event. Having the call up for 24 hours is no easy task but we understand that is no excuses for the failures.

I personally apologize for any inconvenience this may has caused, as we strive to provide not only a service that people can use for free but one that is reliable.

If you have any further issues please continue to email support or call our support telephone number.

Aaron Brauser
VP Product Management
www.talkshoe.com

It should be noted that this type of response in blogger comments is typical of TalkShoe. It's great that they are apologizing but I am curious as to how they will address all of the problems that Colleen and I laid down on them. I would also like to see them step up and donate more money to Autism Speaks.

The only logical explanation I can have for Aaron calling me "Colleen" is that he thought all the posts came from the same blog (since Colleen and I seem to be sharing blogger templates.)

All things being equal I will continue to use TalkShoe as so many podcasts I follow use the service. Thanks to Aaron for taking the time to apologize and it would be great to see some of the problems that were addressed dealt with in future releases of the service.

Forum Drama: Doc Arzt Supports Free Speech

Apparently some Lost boards are getting possesive about where their members obsess over Lost. In a recent blog post DocArzt encourages his base to be careful about who they invite to his forums. If anyone finds out the forum that it is actually enforcing their "no advertising" policies against DocArzt shoot me an email because I'd love to make fun of their admins.

As for DocArzt's policy: "...let's face it... the Lost community is vast, and fans should be free to talk wherever they want, on however many boards or blogs as they want."

Amen Reverend!

Talk Shoe Shows Pity: $100 for Autism, Still No Apology
