Earlier this week I received my press kit for The Middleman. As I ripped open the shiny blue packaging I got exited knowing I would not be submitted to the limitations the iTunes version forced upon me as I watched the pilot again.
And it was worth it. Inside the package, among other things, was the DVD containing the said episode of the new ABC Family series created by Javier Grillo-Marxuach. Javi, is best known in the Lost fan community for writing such episodes as House Of The Rising Sun and Orientation. He also was a creative force behind The Lost Experience internet game in 2006.
The thing that surprised me most about the show, having never read the comics (The Middleman is based on a comic book series of the same name,) was how funny it was. Staying away from any major spoilers, I’ll just say that the unfolding of the plot is both funny, and compelling.
Wendy Watson (brilliantly played by Natalie Morales) is working as a temp for A.N.D. Laboratories as the pilot opens, however in the course of the episode this all changes after a series of hilarious events, ultimately leading her to accept more permanent employment with The Middleman (Matt Keeslar).
Oh, and you’ll meet a Space Shuttle flying gorilla who has a Scarface poster in his bedroom.
Also, here is an interview with Javier Grillo-Marxuach recorded yesterday on the Shaun OMac Radio Show:
The Middleman premieres this Moday, June 16th at 8pm EST on ABC Family.
